Born in Shanghai, China grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and now residing in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, Violet Li always enjoys workouts.  She studied yoga, practiced aerobic dance and taught kickboxing. But it wasn’t until 2000 that she found her true passion in Tai Chi. Since then, she has spent more than 10,000 hours learning the art both in theory and techniques from many instructors including some masters/grandmasters and also interviewed research scientists, doctors and practitioners to understand the benefits of doing Tai Chi. Her knowledge on Tai Chi and Qigong accelerated when she started to take lessons from Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, the 11th Chen Style Tai Chi lineage holder, one of the top ten martial art masters in China and the honoree of the Cambridge List of the Most Distinguished Chinese People in the World in 1999. She is extremely grateful for the opportunity to receive the private tutelage from Grandmaster Chen so she is able to understand the very profound knowledge of Tai Chi.

In addition to writing about Tai Chi/Qigong, Violet has taught Tai Chi and Qigong at senior centers, YMCA, St. Louis Chinese Language School, and private studios to promote the art. She volunteered herself to teach unemployed professionals at Business People in Between Jobs, inner city youth and parents at Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, AT&T, Open Streets organized by the St. Louis Mayor, and other venues. She hosted a three-month Tai Chi for Health program and taught Chen Style 18 Form as a fundraiser for St. Louis Artist Guild.  Violet was invited to perform Tai Chi at various occasions, e.g. Chinese Cultural Days in Missouri Botanical Garden and Coker College in South Carolina. She was an executive producer for Tai Chi 24, an instructional DVD collaborated by majority of St. Louis instructors.  She was interviewed and reported on by both national and local media.  She was invited by Citadel University in South Carolina to perform Tai Chi and to lecture the health benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong based on the scientific studies. She also gave speeches on Tai Chi health benefits to Parkinson Association, churches and various organizations in St. Louis as well as Zonta International in Taipei.

Outside Tai Chi, Violet Li was a Senior Program Manager in the IT industry until she quit the job in May 2015 to devote herself to the great cause of Tai Chi/Qigong.  Previously, she served as the directors of Operations, Market and MIS for a Fortune 500 company. She taught International Communications at the Graduate School of Communications at Webster University (St. Louis, MO), Economics 101 at National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan), and Money and Banking at Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan).
